Hi, just found this thread.
I have a Lunchbox from the first release since around 1990/1991, the time, as I had my Chevy G20 and was a member of the Friends of Vans Germany.
As the pure van-meetings disappeared and I switched over to US & Customcar Meetings, the Lunchbox was stored away.
A couple of days ago, it appeared back in my mind and I googled a lot. I was surprised to find, that Tamiya had rereleased the model and also brought out a special limited run "Gold Version". And also to find out some improvements.
So, yesterday I ordered a new RC control system (2.4 ghz instead the old 27 MHz, I had once in and used for some other project) as well as some spare-parts and the new electronic speed control. Also, some oil filled shocks (the rubber in the original spring version is gone through age) and new body mounts. After markt version in durable aluminum instead the plastic one from the kit, which brake away.
When it's running again, I will post some pictures of my pink lunchbox.

I used to go to the R/C track twice a week. I was really into it. I still have a couple RC10's, a race boat and a lunchbox van. I haven't used them since the last time I took them up to Frostbite Frolics van run for the sled pulls. I'll have dig them out one of these days...

I've had a few RC cars, but always wanted a lunchbox. So I bought one last year from Nautic1 (Phil)... however, I have yet to open it! I'll get there some day.

I have two old school Lunchboxes and one in pieces. Need to find some batteries. Not holding charges anymore. Also need to find my chargers. Damn I am missing a lot of things but I miss my mind the most. What was I saying?

If they are 7.2 volt batterys, 5 rechargeable D cells hooked in series will work for a while

The battery-pack for the lunchbox is 7.2 Volt 6 cell (2x3). You can find them on eBay or in the local hobby-shop, who carries Tamiya. I found on ebay.com a seller, who sells 3 NiMh 7.2 V packs with 3.800 mA for 33 $ including freeshipping. That seems a good deal for me, I payed for 3 NiCad with lower capacity more than this in Euro: 3 pcs 7.2V 3800mAh Ni-Mh rechargeable battery pack RC Kyosho Tamiya
