Question on install
when I put the rear end from the 96 into the 90 I had to change yokes on the Rear End because the driveshaft out of the 96 was to short. Everybody said it was because the transmission in the 96 had a longer tail-shaft. I put the transmission in the 90 and used the 90 drive shaft. The 96 was still to short. Book says wheel base is the same.

Everybody said it was because the transmission in the 96 had a longer tail-shaft. I put the transmission in the 90 and used the 90 drive shaft. The 96 was still to short. Book says wheel base is the same. There would absolutely be a difference in driveshaft length depending of wheelbase. 127" vs. 109" That's an 18" difference. How the heck can that book say there isn't a difference? The OD transmission did have a longer tailshaft, but I think the non-OD transmissions (even the newer ones like your 96) have the same length tailshaft as the older models. The necessity for for a yoke change was probably because of a differnce in the size of u-joints, not driveshaft length.

Ah so. I guess there is a difference in the tailshafts then. Interesting.
