Dropped trans off @ trans shop,$750 for full rebuild w/converter,he looked @ converter and said it was a "Loc-up"converter,explained how they work and showed some pics(never really knew the difference),he also said that the deal I always called & heard called the "kic-down" is not a kic-down ! he says it called a throttle sumptin control??? he says that has to be set-up or You will burn up a the trans in 3 mins!!! he says u can leave it un hooked on a 350 turbo and it wont hurt, but it has to b set-up an hooked up on 727,he also said there should of been a return spring on it,but there wasent,I purchased it new from dealer and no 1 other than me has done anything on it other than 2 services @ dealer when new, says 3-4 days so.........going to make some new trans lines and blow out cooler in new radiator, just ordered new trans mount on flea bay from summit for $5 and $5 shipping!!

Thottle valve control, but in lamens terms "kick-down" is fine. grin

Torqueflites gained the lock-up feature around 77 or so.

My 94 has a cable, so the service manual refers to it as the throttle valve cable and yes these and the linkage must be attached and adjusted properly.

The TH400 in my old 84 GMC van used a vacuum modulator valve for the kick-down feature.

yes...there is a spring that keeps the kick-down linkage tight up against mounting pin at the carburetor.

The lever at the trans end of the kickdown rod is called the "pre-load spring." It is not absolutely necessary so long as the kickdown rod is properly adjusted.

However, the "kickdown rod" controls not only the kickdown but the line pressure in the transmission. it absolutely MUST be hooked up and adjusted properly on a 904 or 727 or the transmission will shift totally wrong and/or burn up quickly. Don't listen to anyone who tells you to leave it disconnected or to wire the arm all the way back or any other shadetree BS. Follow the FSM procedure and adjust it right.

yea he said it controls line pressure to trans also

The guy doing trans tells me to have someone push gas pedal to floor, and some one else under neath pullin leaver fully towards rear, and rod should just drop in hole,do not force it either way,It should just drop in hole,if it needs moving adjust the end of rod till rod drops in.....
He builds them so I guess he knows what hes talkin about...

No, that is wrong. When I get back home I will scan you the right way to do it out of a FSM.

The kick down lever needs to be at full when the gas pedal is at full throttle. Basically the same stroke as the gas pedal. gas pedal up, lever is forward and relaxed,,,,, gas pedal down at full throttle, lever is all the way back. Basically simple if you have all the stock linkage. Mine is all Lokar cables but works the same. Any yes you can tear up a good tranny if that kickdown is not adjusted right. 727's are a little tougher than most but it can't be adjusted wrong forever.
