My exhaust behind my v6 is a 2 1/4 pipe directly into a magnaflow muffler. Rumbles along not too bad.

V6 and I6 engines have a totally different sound compared to one another.

I am a big fan of the Chrysler slant six inline six cylinder engine. I have heard many many many slant sixes and other six cylinder motors that have "that V-8 rumble" simple by choosing the right size exhaust pipe and muffler.
You don't have to use a fart tip. You can use regular mufflers and exhaust pipe.
You didn't say what brand and configuration (inline or V) your six cylinder is. If you have a Ford 300, you can use the factory dual exhaust manifolds that came on fuel injected 300s. If you have a Mopar slant six you can buy Dutra dual cast iron exhaust manifolds or get some stock manifolds cut and welded to be dual exhaust. You can probably find dual exhaust for Chevy inlines as well since Chevy parts are everywhere. If you have a V engine, then you are set for dual exhaust. If you go dual, run 2 1/4 inch pipe all the way back and use a regular muffler.

I can tell you, in my opinion, NOTHING sounds better than a straight six with dual exhaust/split headers ! KILLER SOUNDS !

Its a straight six. I realize that the newer v6's sound different than inline sixes. my qustion should have stated inline.sorry again peeps
