I need a new one for my 77 van.
There is a 78 around the corner, would his housing fit mine? I know there were subtle changes from 77 to 78.

77 to 78 was a major change to the dash design and the dog house so unfortunately the doghouse from a 78 won't work.
You'll need a cover for 75-77. 71-74 won't work either.
