Well i went to look at the van last night and the underside is spotless. I checked all the areas that Draggnastro suggested and its all good. I'll get it Saturday and take some pictures. Thanks for the help.

Welcome, Chevy rust starts in the places you already described slider door and lower front doors, driver side rocker panel and rear wheel wells they usually don't have problems underneath unless it sat on grass / dirt for a long time, but like draggnastro said look around at the places he mentioned and look at the fuel, brake lines & battery tray those rot out, pick up the front floor mats and see how the floor looks too. Hey a 78 is 34 years old so there will be some rust somewhere.
Good luck and if you do get it lets see some pics.

Thanks Munz. I checked it out real good and the only rot is on the doors. I'm getting the truck on Saturday. I think i've seen your Van. I go to Lead East in Parsippany every year and last year i think i saw it driving on the Garden State Pkwy. I would love to check it out one day because the look of your van is what i have always pictured in my head. Thanks again everyone and i will put pictures up this weekend

I live less than 1 mile from the Lead East show so you probably did see me or my van there. If your ever in the Jersey area let me know we can hang out, or go to the Lost Memoral Day van event in NY next weekend and you can see lots of vans. I don't know if I'll be at the Lead East show this year.
