I seem to be leaking a LOT of fluid from the selector shaft on my torqflight 727. I think this its the selector (gear shifter) shaft seal.

But I'm trying to track down a part number. Anyone happen to have that info?

I have these pics, but I'm struggeling. Thinking near the valve body exploded view, maybe 072 or 349 ? (click the link for a larger view)

What do you suppose # 839 is?

and I spelled torqueflight wrong, lmao. I'm thinking #072....

I think I have enought room to do this with the trans still in the van. Wonder if I can pull this off without removing the pan? First time Monkeying with a transmission.... other than swapping it.

Ordered, parts labled. 072 & 349.

Seems like if I removed the pan and valve body, I'd have less of a chance of damaging something else in the process. Whats involved in dropping the valve body? just a few bolts?

072 and 349 are both seals, 839 appears to be the doughnut magnet that's in the pan.
As far as replacing the seals without dropping the pan, well maybe. I would prefer to drop the pan and then drop the valve body myself. It's a bit more work and a bit more money but you get to replace the filter too, yay.

Here's a link with clickable parts.

Ten bolts iirc and the parking rod, very easy but nice and messy.

Sweet! Thanks Mike. I'll likely drop the pan, I have an extra filter and pan gasket "in stock" at home. While I'm there, might as well.

Not sure there that you have to drop the pan I had mine changed at the dealer and they popped the old one out and slipped the new one on in quick time. That seal is bad about leaking anyway but ask your tranny shop or dealer first. You can just get a small screwdriver in there and stab it and pry it right up. it is an easy fix. Just clean the area around it first.

BUT it never hurts to change the filter but it does cost about $75 for the fluid to put back in the tranny, it takes a case. So I would only do it if it needs it not just for fun at that price. And Torque is 13 to 15 Ft. Lbs. for the tranny pan bolts. put gasket on dry with dry surfaces. Never use "Anti seize" on the bolts. I know with an aluminum case it is tempting but Anti seize contains a nickel paste with finely ground glass powder mixed in there, that is something you never want in that tranny. Good luck and mostly, have fun working on your van ! If you love it , it will love you back...smile

There is also a seal within the selector shaft for the kick down rod that goes through the middle of it. To get that one, dropping the pan and removing the "limiting" travel bolt for the kickdown as well as the clips that will allow you to remove that rod and replace that seal would be easier if you dropped the valve body, at least hanging by the parking rod. Also keep in mind if you drop the valve body, there is a spring for the accumulator that is held in place by the valve body that will fall out, so watch for that too! smile

Good luck! smile

P.S. Looks like #349 is that kick down seal, if I'm looking at that JPG right smile
